This year's Boishakhi Mela, the largest Bengali New Year celebrations in Australia, returns to Fairfield Showground in Sydney.

For 31 consecutive years, the Bangabandhu Council Australia has gathered Sydney’s Bengali community — and thousands of curious Sydneysiders — to mark Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year.
This year’s Boishakhi Mela, the largest Bengali cultural event in Australia, returns to Fairfield Showground for what promises to be its most ambitious edition yet.
Boishakhi Mela has previously been held at ANZ Stadium and Sydney Olympic Park precincts. Sydney’s Bengali diaspora, is now one of the fastest-growing South Asian communities in New South Wales.

Bangladeshi band Shironamhin, one of the country’s most beloved rock outfits, will headline a live concert that is expected to draw thousands.
The day’s program extends well beyond the evening concert, offering traditional music and dance performances, children’s activities, and a curry festival showcasing the depth and complexity of Bengali cuisine — mustard fish curries, mishti doi, pithas and more.
The event closes with a spectacular fireworks display, a fitting finale for a festival that celebrates not just a new year but the vitality of a community that has made its home on the other side of the world without losing the warmth of the one it left behind.
Fairfield Showground, 443 Smithfield Road, Prairiewood NSW. Tickets via Eventbrite.
